Building Energy Rating BER
BER (Building Energy Rating) is a mandatory energy rating system for all homes and buildings in Ireland.
Building Energy Rating - BER Assessments

If you are planning to build, sell or rent a property in Ireland, you will need to obtain a BER (Building Energy Rating) certificate from a registered BER assessor. You also need a BER certificate to draw down SEAI grant funding for retrofit projects such as installing solar panels, heat pumps or upgrading insulation.

BER (Building Energy Rating) is a mandatory energy rating system for all homes and buildings in Ireland. It provides an indication of the energy performance of a building by rating it on a scale from A to G, with A being the most energy-efficient and G being the least energy-efficient. A BER will provide you with valuable information on the energy efficiency of your building and help you to make informed decisions about energy-saving measures.

BER assessments are carried out by our registered BER assessors who are fully trained and registerd with SEAI. Our assessors use the standardised SEAI methodology to assess the energy performance of your building based on its construction, insulation, ventilation, heating, and lighting.

The BER assessment is required for all new buildings and when a property is sold or rented. The rating is displayed on a certificate that must be provided to potential buyers or tenants.

The SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) is responsible for overseeing the BER assessment system in Ireland and maintains a national register of certified BER assessors. They also provide information and guidance on improving the energy efficiency of buildings.

Grants for Energy Upgrades

The BER (Building Energy Rating) assessment is a requirement for all grant-aided works carried out under the Better Energy Homes scheme in Ireland. This scheme is designed to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient and reduce their energy bills.

To avail of the grant, homeowners must have a BER assessment carried out after the works are completed. The BER assessment will provide a rating for the energy performance of the home, with A being the most efficient and G being the least efficient.

To apply for the Better Energy Homes scheme, homeowners should contact a registered contractor who will carry out the works. The contractor will also be able to provide more information on the grants available and the application process.
